HOPE CHILDCARE
(at ISLAND DAY NURSERY)

Sandown, Isle of Wight

Hope Childcare at Island Day Nursery has previously been running since 1989 and now provides full day care for nursery and pre-school children. We also run a Fun Club for 5 - 9 year olds which includes after school and holiday care.

Our Nursery caters for children from birth to two and a half years. There is ample provision for play and learning and walks out to the park and local places of interest. We have a sleep room for those children who require rest or sleep during the day.

Our Pre-School takes children up to school age and allows flexible school entry between the ages of 4 and 5 years.

We are happy to announce that we have been awarded the Kite Mark for quality assurance.
This scheme is endorsed by the local authority and Child Care and Early Education Centre.

At Hope Childcare we work on a “Key Person” system whereby a member of staff is allocated to each child to be their main carer whilst in the group. They will play with them, monitor their development and assess their progress. Parents will receive a progress report half-termly and are invited to contribute in any way to the report. All staff hold relevant childcare qualifications and regularly attend courses to update their knowledge and skills. Students are on placement in the setting from a variety of childcare courses.

We join with other Pre-Schools in the area for Easter, Harvest and Christmas Praise at St. John’s Church in Sandown. Every year we hold our own Nativity Play and just before we break up for Christmas there is a party for everyone which usually includes some special entertainment for the children.

Regular visits are undertaken with the children which enhance their educational learning and provide fun and stimulation. Weekly these include a trip to the library, walks to parks and beach and a swimming session at the local leisure centre.

Outings for fun and learning are seen by us as an important feature in children’s lives and throughout the course of a year we have many such excursions. These include fire station, airport, hovercraft, farms, donkey sanctuary, bat hospital, zoological gardens, local shops, radio station and local woods.

HOPE CHILDCARE is unique in our local area inasmuch as we open 51 weeks of the year and take children up to the age of 9 in our Fun Club. It is common for older siblings to join their younger brother(s) and sister(s) at Hope during the school holidays.
